Sal: 'Indecisive' Robert Saleh showing signs of concern as Jets head coach

Sal Licata is bullish about the Jets roster heading into the 2023 season, but he still believes the team may only get as far as their head coach can take them.

And what he’s seen so far doesn’t give him a load of confidence in Robert Saleh.

“He’s unsure of himself,” Sal said after watching the premiere of Hard Knocks. “You can hear it in the way that he speaks. Even in his inconsistent use of ‘freaking’ vs. the actual f word. Dude, be consistent with it. If you have it in you to come out and say, bleep, say it. don’t beat around the bush. He’s ‘freaking this’ and ‘freaking that,’ and then he drops in an f bomb.

“I just wasn’t sold. I am watching someone who is, in my mind, still doubting himself a little bit. And there is reason for that. Robert Saleh has not yet had success as an NFL coach.”

Sal’s concerns were reinforced by rumors he heard regarding the team’s reluctance to be featured on the behind-the-scenes show, and after watching the first episode, he believes that apparent reluctance was warranted.

“Saleh’s gotta be more secure of himself and more of a leader…I’m just not seeing it,” Sal said. “I heard from someone in the NFL months ago that the Jets didn’t want to do Hard Knocks…because of how it may portray Saleh not being the leader of the team.

“You don’t want that as a head coach. That could be a problem.”
