Aaron Rodgers is catching plenty of heat after the latest Jets loss, whether it be because of his play on the field or his comments afterward.
For Sal Licata, the Rodgers frustration is way overblown, and that anger should be geared towards the players around the quarterback, as Sal says Rodgers’ teammates are doing him no favors this season, and Sunday was no different.
“Again, the sentiment is ripping Aaron Rodgers. He’s not the problem,” Sal said. “He’s old, yes. He’s slow, yes. What do you expect? He’s not Superman. The rest of the team stinks. for me, it’s too much blame on one particular individual.
“He made some good throws, and he made some bad throws. The Jets didn’t lose the game because of Aaron Rodgers, at least not in my eyes.”
Sal says Garrett Wilson slowed down on his route when Rodgers missed him wide open in the end zone, and noted drops by Davante Adams and another defensive collapse as reasons why the Jets lost, not just Rodgers making mistakes. Sal believes Rodgers could still have some good football left in him, but Gang Green is doing nothing to help bring that out of the 41-year-old.
As for the 0-5 record in games which Rodgers has the ball with a chance to tie or win the game down the stretch this season, Sal says that is again more of a reflection on the players around Rodgers.
“That is a misleading stat that is anti-Rodgers. How many teams has Rodgers given that crappy, overrated, no-good defense the lead?” Sal said. “He shouldn’t have had to try and come from behind in all five of those games, with a running back who fumbles a football, wide receivers who either run the wrong routes or are washed up, dropping balls left and right.
“I’m not saying he’s perfect. He’s not...but is the Patriots game on him? The Denver game? That monstrosity yesterday?”
