Sal wants to see Zach Wilson show more 'mean streak, alpha male' persona

Sal wants to see Zach Wilson succeed for the Jets, but he believes the young quarterback needs to show more assertiveness to help his play on the field take the next step.

“How can you not root for Zach Wilson? He seems like such a likable, nice kid,” Sal said. “But my issue with him is just that. Almost too nice of a kid. I want to see more of a little mean streak, leader, alpha male from my quarterback. Maybe he’ll get there eventually. He’s still so young.

“I know it’s been incremental steps, and he’s been set up to fail. But I do want to see him take that next step. Yeah, point the thumb at yourself when things go wrong. You can also put the finger, occasionally, and get on somebody.”

Sal believes the Mike White craze last year hampered Wilson’s confidence to be a more vocal leader, and would like to see that change now that the Jets have clearly put their belief in him to be the starting quarterback for the rest of the season.

“Hypothetically, why does it feel like Zach Wilson can never get on Garrett Wilson?” Sal said. “Imagine if Zach Wilson had the gall to say ‘Garrett, you screwed up on this play, I need you to run it better.’”
