Sal worried about Jets hiring Aaron Glenn: 'Another Robert Saleh'

The Jets are reportedly circling Aaron Glenn as their next head coach, and it has sparked a divisive reaction from the fanbase.

It was no different at the start of Tuesday’s BT and Sal show, as BT was a fan of the potential hire, while Sal was very wary that the latest attempt at hiring a defensive coordinator with no head coaching background would work out in New York.

“I’m not anti-hiring Aaron Glenn in theory. I am anti-hiring another first-time head coach that is a defensive coordinator,” Sal said. “I don’t think this is gonna be a good hire for the Jets.

“We’ve never seen him do it as a head coach. This is another Robert Saleh. Saleh, from where he is now and how we viewed him versus when the Jets hired him, they’re totally different things. He was this badass defensive coordinator, as fiery a coordinator as we’ve ever seen. No nonsense, players wanted to play for him. It’s the same thing.”

Sal liked Glenn as a player and likes him as a defensive coordinator, but he saw this same narrative fail miserably with Saleh, and the Jets going back to that same well doesn’t have Sal hopeful that an organizational turnaround is finally on the horizon.

“Tell me how it’s gonna be different from Robert Saleh,” Sal said. “It might be...but Aaron Glenn is another first-timer and defensive coordinator.”

“We’re trying to eliminate the question marks...there is clearly a vicious cycle that continues to happen...while Glenn may have some characteristics that are appealing, once you get here and experience some failure, which is bound to happen, how do you respond?”
