“We’re going to get better,” Saleh said. “We’re going to win championships here.”
The Jets, of course, have yet to reach the Super Bowl since Joe Namath and company shocked the Colts in 1969, and stumbled through a 2-14 season last year, which led to Saleh’s hiring after the team parted ways with Adam Gase.
The Jets have had all kinds of turmoil surrounding the franchise in recent years, from contract disputes with safety Jamal Adams leading to a trade, and a rift with running back Le’Veon Bell led to his release in October. New York clearly has a long road ahead towards contention, and Saleh wouldn’t give an estimate on when he wanted the Jets to be a perennial playoff team, but he believes they will get there before his time in New York is up.
“To give you a timeline, I wish I knew,” Saleh said. “I’d go to Vegas. But we’re excited about the opportunity that we have in front of us. We’re excited about what jpe and his staff have been able to accomplish since they got here. Now it’s just about piecing it together and having fun doing it.”
