Sam Darnold is celebrating the next chapter of his NFL journey.

Darnold, traded by the Jets to the Panthers on Monday after months of speculation, returned home and was greeted by cheering family and friends, who had decked the home out in Carolina white and blue balloons. When Darnold entered to the greeting, he got in on the celebration as well, noticeably excited for life after Gang Green.

The video was posted to Jordan Palmer’s Instagram, the quarterback coach who has worked with Darnold for years since New York drafted him at third overall out of USC in 2018. Palmer has consistently stood by Darnold through his three lackluster seasons with the Jets, putting more of the blame on the team’s construction and coaching than Darnold himself.

Darnold was dealt to the Panthers for a sixth round pick in this year’s draft, and second and fourth round picks in 2022. The Jets are expected to take Zach Wilson in this year’s draft, serving as Darnold’s replacement as the team once again tries to find its franchise quarterback.
