Sam Darnold throws more pick-sixes than TDs in another ugly Jets loss

The tank for Trevor Lawrence is apparently on between the New York football teams.

Just hours after Daniel Jones’ putrid performance against the San Francisco 49ers, New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold raised questions about his future by throwing two pick-sixes against the Indianapolis Colts.

Darnold’s first pick-six came on the first drive of the game when he looked to his left for Lawrence Cager but Colts cornerback Xavier Rhodes was there to snag the ball and return it 44 yards for a touchdown.

Darnold’s second pick-six came in the third quarter with Gang Green trailing 24-7 and the Jets quarterback looking deep for Chris Hogan when the ball went straight to cornerback TJ Carrie who took it to the house for a 47-yard score.

It was the first time a quarterback threw two pick-sixes in a game since Ryan Fitzpatrick did it in Week 2 last year with the Dolphins. The last time a Jets quarterback did it was Geno Smith in 2013.

Darnold’s final stat line was not pretty, either. He finished with three interceptions total, completing 17-of-29 passes for 168 yards and one touchdown.

He was also sacked for a safety late in the fourth quarter, as well.

There was chatter before the game the head coach Adam Gase is on the hot seat and after three ugly losses, Gase’s future with the Jets may not the only one at stake.
