The Texans just made a significant addition to their defensive front, signing former Jets and Saints defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins to a one-year deal worth $10.5 million, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

Rankins spent the past two seasons with the Jets, where he recorded six sacks, nine tackles for loss and 14 quarterback hits in that time. He joins a familiar defensive scheme having played in New York under Robert Saleh, who was Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans' predecessor as the 49ers defensive coordinator.

Before joining the Jets in 2021, Rankins spent five seasons with the Saints.
