Brandon Tierney hasn’t come down from the high that was the Jets’ action-packed first round of Thursday’s NFL Draft.
So much so that he is calling it right now, more than four months before Week 1 and nearly three months since finishing off a four-win season: BT sees a playoff spot in the Jets future, as in this coming season.
“Today’s the day to indulge in some wacky predictions, and maybe I’m feeling it and I’m still high from last night,” Tierney said during Friday’s show. “But the New York Jets will be a Wild Card team this year…with the extra Wild Card spot this year, what we saw at the end of last year, what Douglas crushed in free agency, what they brought in last night…the Jets will be a playoff team next year.”
Gang Green certainly improved as the season went on last year, but did finish with a league-worst defense and Zach Wilson has plenty of growing to do. But Thursday night seemed to address a bunch of needs by acquiring prospects that will likely be Week 1 starters in cornerback Sauce Gardner, wide receiver Garrett Wilson, and edge rusher Jermaine Johnson.
Maybe a playoff prediction one night after the first round of the draft is ludicrous when it comes to a team that hasn’t sniffed a winning record in recent memory. But at the very least, there is finally good vibes swirling around the Jets.
“The Jets right now, today and last night, are the center of the NFL universe,” Tierney said.
“The Jets are the center of the NFL universe for the first time, well, I can’t remember the last time it was something good. But usually when the Jets are centrally involved in the main conversation, it’s about something bad. The butt fumble, ghosts with Darnold…but the Jets, last night’s Jets draft was an A+++.”
