Many consider Oregon pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux to be the top prospect in the upcoming NFL Draft, but some have recently predicted that he will fall slightly beyond first overall, with Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated posting in a recent mock that Thibodeaux could even fall to the Jets at No. 4.
If he does, Gang Green has let Thibodeaux know that they have their eye on him after meeting with him at the combine.
“It was great. I just met with them today,” Thibodeaux told reporters on Friday. “Just breaking down film. They loved how I could break down film and articulate a pass rush….they’re really interested in me as well. They asked me how it would feel if I didn’t go No. 1, and I said it’s all about what I can do to contribute to a Super Bowl and contribute to a winning team and help cultivate a winning culture.”
Head coach Robert Saleh isn’t in attendance in Indianapolis, but general manager Joe Douglas is there, and considering New York’s awful defensive showing last season, adding Thibodeaux would be a massive boost if he falls to No. 4 in the draft.
“Not only do I have a great skillset and athletic ability, but I’m hungry for knowledge,” Thibodeaux said. “If I don’t know a move, I’m going to learn that move and bring it into the game.”
The defensive end has now been linked to the Jets in multiple mock drafts, though many still see him as a potential top pick, and he is prepared to show the world why once he begins his NFL career.
“I’m really a student of the game,” Thibodeaux said. “I really love this game…football is my main focus. Winning a Super Bowl, getting a yellow jacket, being Defensive Rookie of the Year is on my list of goals.”
