The Jets season is over, and a critical offseason has begun, where Gang Green will have to decide on its starting quarterback for 2025, along with hiring a new head coach and general manager.
New York has reportedly been busy on Monday, the first day of its offseason, as multiple reports indicate that the team has requested a load of interviews with potential replacements for interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich, who replaced Robert Saleh after he was fired midseason.
Mike Vrabel and Ron Rivera have already interviewed for the head coaching vacancy, and a long list of names are awaiting potential interviews, including former Jets head coach Rex Ryan and current Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, a Brooklyn native who has familiarity with the AFC East thanks to his time with the Patriots where he won a Super Bowl calling plays for the defense, and eventually spending four seasons as the Dolphins head coach.
Flores took a Minnesota defense from the basement to the middle of the pack in one season, and now, the Vikings are playoff bound with an impressive 14-3 record.
Josh McCown, former Jets quarterback and now with Flores as the quarterbacks coach with the Vikings, has also been requested to be interviewed. Brian Griese, former quarterback and current quarterbacks coach of the 49ers, is also on the list, as is current offensive coordinators Joe Brady (Bills), Matt Nagy (Chiefs), Arthur Smith (Steelers), and Bobby Slowik (Texans).
On the defensive coordinator side, which is the direction the Jets went in with Saleh, Lions DC Aaron Glenn has gotten an interview request, as has Vance Joseph (Broncos).
Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson was seen as one of the top head coaching candidates in the NFL, but according to SNY’s Connor Hughes, he has made it known that he is not interested in the Jets job, and therefore will not be interviewing.
On the general manager front, the Jets have requested interviews with Buccaneers assistant GM Mike Greenberg, a New York native, Vikings executive Ryan Grigson and Rams executive Ray Farmer, Eagles assistant GM Alec Halaby, and a trendy general manager target in Chiefs assistant GM Mike Borgonzi.
