Ty Johnson contributed to three straight stalled drives for the Jets in Sunday’s loss to the Saints, but he didn’t shy away from shouldering the blame after dropping three passes in the first quarter.
“I take 100 percent accountability for them,” Johnson said after New York’s 30-9 loss. “They hit my hands, I dropped it. What else is there to say? I can make those catches, I believe in myself to make those catches, but I just didn’t give eyes to the ball to look it all the way in.”

Johnson, seeing early playing time with Tevin Coleman out due to a concussion, but couldn’t capitalize on the new opportunity. He dropped two passes that hit him directly in the hands, and another on a crossing route that was thrown slightly behind him, but still catchable as he recorded the most drops by a Jet in a single game in 14 years, and he did it all in the first three drives of the game for the Jets.
“I told Zach [Wilson] that was completely on me,” Johnson said. “If it touches my hands, I need to bring them in, simple as that. That’s what I told him on the sidelines, that’s what I told him in the locker room just now.”
Johnson’s drops let to three straight three-and-outs for the Jets on Sunday, setting the tone for a brutal collective offensive showing. Gang Green’s problems on offense ran far beyond Johnson’s slippery hands, but he owned up to his role in an inefficient afternoon.
“I’ve been catching all year out of the backfield and just couldn’t look them in on those first three ones…simple as that,” Johnson said.
“Everyone drops them…just finish strong and catch whatever comes my way next.”
