The Jets lost their starting quarterback (who was their backup quarterback), perhaps their best secondary player, and a little bit of swagger in what looks to be a blowout loss to Indianapolis, but there was maybe one bright spot: Josh Johnson’s first touchdown pass since 2018.
Johnson, who came into the game in the second quarter after Mike White suffered an arm injury, hadn’t even played in an NFL game since ’18 before replacing White for part of one series last Sunday against Cincinnati.
He again replaced White on Thursday, and late in the third quarter, he led the Jets on a touchdown drive that ended with this 19-yard pass to rookie Elijah Moore:
Johnson’s last NFL touchdown pass came on Dec. 22, 2018, when he was with Washington, a second-quarter TD strike to Michael Floyd in a game Washington lost 25-16 to Tennessee.
This catch was Moore’s second score of the game, as he also caught Mike White’s lone TD pass in the first quarter:
That was his first career receiving TD, but not his first career TD, as he scored earlier this year on what was technically a running play.
