As Haason Reddick’s fines for holding out of Jets training camp exceeds $1 million, Willie Colon says it’s long past due that the Jets and the dynamic pass rusher reach an agreement and get him back on the field.
But the fact that this holdout has lasted this long shows an issue with the Jets front office greenlighting a trade for Reddick despite not seeming to be ready to pay the New Jersey native.
“He’s looking at what Brian Burns is making for the Giants, and he’s saying, ‘Pay me my money,’” Colon said.
“There was something missed there. There is no way I’m leaving that team…I had to know I was getting what I wanted when I landed there. The fact that he’s not getting what he wants at the age of 30, and has been a double-digit sack guy for so long…I understand why Haason is sitting out, but I have empathy Robert Saleh. Week 1, he’s got San Francisco. He’s playing against a good team with a good offensive line.”
Regardless of who shoulders the bulk of the blame, Colon says it’s time to get Reddick back on the field, stop delaying the inevitable, and get Reddick his payday so he can get acclimated before a critical season begins for the Jets.
“This has to happen. You want Haason Reddick in camp,” Colon said. “Do I see the money coming his way? It has to happen. I just don’t know when.”
