The New York Jets’ season did not go anywhere near according to plan, but owner Woody Johnson plans to stick with his current staff.

Johnson spoke to Brian Costello of the New York Post on Sunday and confirmed that GM Joe Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh will return for the 2024 season.

“My decision is to keep them,” he told The Post. “I think we’ve had some very positive moves. The culture of the team is a lot better. The defense is better. The offense needs a few pieces.”

The Jets entered the season with Super Bowl aspirations but that was quickly derailed when Aaron Rodgers suffered a season-ending Achilles injury four plays into the first series of the season.

With Rodgers out, the Jets turned to Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle and Sunday’s starter, Trevor Siemian, as replacements but entered their game against the Commanders at 5-9 and in third place in the AFC East.

Rodgers, who signed a two-year deal, vowed to return next year and possibly longer.

“Just to keep the continuity going with Aaron and the team we’ve got,” Johnson added. “Like I said a year ago, we need a quarterback. We had a quarterback for four plays. Since then we haven’t been able to replace him. If we have a good quarterback, it makes everybody’s job easier. It makes the line better, the receivers better.”

Saleh is 16-32 in three seasons as a head coach while the team is 25-55 since Joe Douglas took over as general manager in 2019. Douglas drafted Zach Wilson with the second overall pick in 2021 – a major reason for the team’s shortcomings – but also selected rising stars Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson in recent years.
