Zach Wilson, Gardner Minshew combine for near-perfect first half in Jets-Eagles game

It’s nearly impossible, or so it seems, for two quarterbacks to have near-perfect halves in the same game, but Zach Wilson and Gardner Minshew did just that in the first half of Sunday’s Eagles-Jets game at MetLife Stadium.

Minshew ended the first half with a perfect 158.3 passer rating, and was nearly perfect overall: 14 of 15 for 188 yards and two touchdowns, his only incompletion a throwaway to avoid a sack – and even that came with 90 seconds remaining in the half, after he started 11 for 11.

As for Wilson, his rating was “only” 138.4, as he was 12 of 14 for 108 yards and two touchdowns, but he also ran one in for the Jets. Wilson’s two incompletions were a drop by Eiljah Moore in the end zone on the third drive and an offline throw to Jamison Crowder on their second drive – and, technically, a missed two-point conversion pass – so Wilson started 5-for-5 and then hit seven in a row after the first incompletion.

The only drawbacks in the game so far are for those who took either defense in fantasy, those who took the over, or anyone related to Alex Kessman – it was 24-18 at the half, and the only reason the over/under of 44.5 from most sportsbooks wasn’t reached is Kessman, the Jets’ newly-signed kicker, missing two PAT and forcing the Jets to unsuccessfully go for two on their third score.
