According to multiple reports by The Athletic, the Jets want to go back to Zach Wilson as the starting quarterback, but he is “reluctant” to step back in as the starter.
BT and Sal were live on air to react to the report, and while they have some sympathy for Wilson, he simply has to suit up and play.
“I don’t blame him on some level,” BT said. “It looks weak and unprofessional, but on some level, I don’t blame him.
“But if he really does abandon his team responsibilities, I don’t even know how another team respects him down the road. He’s gotta play…I can’t defend him anymore.”
Sal had a similar response, understanding why Wilson wouldn’t want to be put in the position of leading a dead Jets offense when his career in New York is likely over, while also strongly opposing Wilson’s reported mindset if the former No. 2 overall pick is hoping to resurrect his career elsewhere.
“He needs to just sack up and do it,” Sal said. “It should never get public, but I can understand him being like, ‘You guys have jerked me around here for three years. Start, sit, this coordinator, benched, first string, third string. You’ve run me ragged, and when everything is over, you’re gonna go back to me?
“He needs to understand that this is an opportunity…forget about the Jets. Go play your ass off on the field on Sundays and go show your next team that you do have it.”
