Zach Wilson talks sharing the wealth with Jets receivers

The most impressive throw of Zach Wilson’s young NFL career came in Sunday’s win over the Titans, a deep ball that traveled nearly 57 yards in the air before it was hauled in by Corey Davis for a go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter.

It was one of seven targets for Davis on the day, who has 10 the week before.

Now, the challenge for Wilson will be to spread the wealth and continue the momentum he built in the Week 4 victory.

But even as Davis piles on the targets, Wilson insists that he has no favorite receiver.

“Everyone's always like, 'he only throws the ball to Corey.' I don't think people understand sometimes that I'm going through my reads,” Wilson told reporters on Friday. “There’s very rarely a time where I’m looking left and right saying ‘Hey, where’s Corey at?’ I have trust with every single guy on the field.”

Davis leads the team with 29 targets, while Braxton Berrios is second with 22, though he has only had four in the last two games. Elijah Moore’s return this week could mean more options for Wilson, but whoever is on the field, Wilson has his eye on them if they’re open, regardless of who it is.

“Those guys are gonna have their opportunities as plays go on,” Wilson said. “Obviously I need to get them the ball when those times come. But we’re putting those guys in different positons to be successful. The cool part about the football game is you could throw those guys wherever and they can make a lot of those plays. It’s really never a quarterback saying one side or the other.”

Davis leads the team with three receiving touchdowns, the only other one this season coming from Jamison Crowder. The receiver core was shorthanded last week, but Wilson will look to spread it out against the Falcons in London on Saturday, but if Davis is the one getting the most separation, he will keep feeding him.

“That’s a man coverage game, even when you’re on the goal line and you got two fades on each side,” Wilson said. “Most of the time we have progressions and things we’re going through and it really just depends who’s in that spot.”
