Keith: Mets have figured things out while Yankees have excuses

The Mets smacked around Gerrit Cole to the tune of four home runs, taking game one of the Subway Series with a 9-7 win on Tuesday night.

Before the Yanks and Mets met in Queens, Keith noted that the Mets were playing better baseball than their city rivals of late, and Tuesday only further reinforced that belief.

"They have figured it out. They are playing good baseball," Keith said. "A better brand of baseball than the Yankees.

"The Yankees right now are full of excuses. We know the Mets bullpen is shaky. Edwin Diaz is suspended 10 games…didn't matter. Didn't need him. Starling Marte, didn't need him either. You have guys in the lineup that put bat to ball, and last night, they put belt to ass."

The Yankees are shorthanded themselves, but their absences currently seem more glaring than those of the Mets, and it showed in Tuesday's loss, which needed an Aaron Judge grand slam to make the score seem much closer than the game actually was.

"It doesn't matter who is out there…there are enough hitters in this lineup," Keith said. "This lineup has come together."
