Keith ready for 'sad' New York football to give way to much more exciting baseball
Football season is over, and Yankees and Mets players have already begun reporting to spring training as attention shifts to the baseball season.
For Keith McPherson, it means a refreshing change of pace in New York, as the constant frustration and disappointment of football gives way to the hype of baseball in the city, where both teams are expected to be legit contenders.
"It's a different energy from football completely," Keith said. "Football these last few years has just been so sad, so disappointing. Over before it starts. That's not gonna happen in baseball.
"The Mets started out slow last year…and look what they did.
I'm looking forward to watching the Mets…I'm rooting for good baseball and good storylines."
There will be storylines abound this spring, from how Aaron Judge and the Yankees will bounce back after losing in the World Series, to how Juan Soto will fare now that he is across town. Plus, how will Pete Alonso respond back in Queens after tense free agency negotiations? How will notable new Yankees like Max Fried, Devin Williams, and Cody Bellinger fare in the Bronx? There will be plenty to keep an eye on, with the hope being that both teams will be playing deep into October, which is usually just before the football season has ended in Gotham in recent years.
"We're back, man," Keith said. "I caution a lot of you now, and then it's positive vibes only: The Yankees were able to get back to the World Series thanks in large part to Juan Soto. You can't sell me that they're more equipped to get back to a World Series without Juan Soto.
"Do I think they're gonna compete? Hell yeah. Do I think they undergo a philosophy change? Hell yeah."
