2021 NBA Draft: Knicks make a deal, add three selections to roster

The Knicks were scheduled to have two picks in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft, but ended up with three after a mid-round deal netted them two selections to move down slightly.

Here are quick capsules of the Knicks’ picks, who join No. 25 overall selection Quentin Grimes:

No. 32 overall: Villanova F Jeremiah Robinson-Earl
The 2020-21 Co-Big East Player of the Year, Robinson-Earl led the Wildcats in scoring (15.7 points per game) and rebounding (8.5 boards per game) in 25 contests. Over two years with Jay Wright at Nova, Robinson-Earl averaged 12.8 points and 9.0 boards in 56 games (all starts), and was the Big East Freshman of the Year in 2019-20.

Robinson-Earl was, however, traded to Oklahoma City, with OKC sending back the Nos. 34 and 36 overall picks.

No. 34 overall: Lithuanian G Rokas Jokubaitis
With the first of the two picks acquired from OKC, the Knicks selected Jokubaitis, a 20-year-old who had entered the 2020 Draft before deciding to spend one more season with Zalgiris. He played74 total games between Lithuania and the EuroLeague, Jokubaitis averaged 7.5 points per game on 46 percent shooting (including 35 percent from three) and 3.3 assists per game.

No. 36 overall: West Virginia G Miles McBride
The 2020-21 Second Team All-Big 12 selection averaged 15.9 points, 3.9 boards, and 4.8 assists per game in 29 contests for the Mountaineers, and is noted as an excellent defender. McBride was also named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team in 2019-20 after averaging 9.5 points per game in 31 contests.

No. 58 overall: Texas F Jericho Sims
A two-time Honorable Mention All-Big 12 selection, Sims averaged 9.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game for the Longhorns in 2020-21, connecting on 65.8 percent of his field goals. He started 51 of 93 games played in three years, but missed the back end of 2020-21 with a stress fracture in his back. 1

With this haul, the Knicks turned the 19th, 21st, 32nd, and 58th picks into No. 25, 34, 36, and 58, plus a future first-round pick via Charlotte and a 2024 second-round pick via the Clippers.
