The Knicks suffered another frustrating loss on Wednesday night, coming apart in crunch time and falling to the shorthanded Hawks for their second straight defeat.
After losing to the Rockets on Monday, New York held a five-point lead with less than three minutes to go before Trae Young and Atlanta came back to steal a win and add more frustration to what has been a slow start to the Knicks season.
But Boomer and Gio aren’t hitting any panic buttons just yet, as Boomer says he is giving the Knicks the rest of this month to get used to their new teammates and hopefully get off and running the rest of the way.
“I want to see 20 games. I want to see them all understand who is supposed to do what and play together,” Boomer said.
“To me, it’s about just getting used to playing with each other…I look at these next 10 games, and they have a lot of games that they can win.”
The Knicks have added two new pieces to the starting five, and are operating shorthanded without Precious Achiuwa and Mitchell Robinson. The defense has looked porous at times, while the offense stalled in crunch time on Wednesday. Boomer believes that will eventually change, but he is putting a date on when he wants to start seeing real, consistent results.
“It’s gonna take a while,” Boomer said. “I’m gonna give them until Dec. 1 before I start making a true determination if the Karl-Anthony Towns thing work, and if they’re really missing DiVincenzo and Randle.
“There has to be more consistency with this team. But I gotta give them until Dec. 1.”
