Should the Knicks trade Mitchell Robinson with the trade deadline less than a month away? BT and Sal disagree, with BT saying that he “almost guarantees” that New York will move on from its homegrown center.
“It’s no longer a cute little story,” BT said. “The Knicks went into their treasure chest and reached for every asset they had to get Bridges here to make a run for a championship.
“They must trade Mitchell Robinson. I’m not taking a chance, I’m not messing around. The deadline is Feb. 6. He’s not even bursting sprints yet and isn’t ready for contact.”
Robinson has dealt with injuries for his entire career, and has been out since last postseason due to multiple ankle surgeries. His absence has been felt immensely since he went down, as the Knicks desperately need his interior defense and rebounding back in the fold. For Sal, he says the risk is worth the potential reward if Robinson can come back and be ready for a full workload by the playoffs.
“Who is going to do what Mitch can do better than Mitch when he comes back healthy?” Sal said.
“When he’s on the floor, the Knicks are gonna have four scorers around him. In the past, they didn’t have that...you put Mitch back at center and let him be the ultimate rim protector that he is and rebounding machine...that might be a championship caliber team.”
BT says nobody on the trade market can do what Robinson does, but he can’t bank on Robinson being available, so his solution is to trade the longest tenured Knick.
“If he gets hurt again, then you can’t make a move,” BT said. “If they don’t shore up behind KAT, they’re not winning anything.
“I don’t think he’s ever gonna be healthy, and I’m not waiting for it.”
