BT & Sal applaud Knicks for extending Tom Thibodeau: 'He has truly earned it'

The Knicks have reportedly signed Tom Thibodeau to a three-year contract extension that will now take him through the 2027-28 season, according to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski.

Thibodeau, a two-time NBA Coach of the Year, won the award with New York in 2021 after leading the Knicks to the fourth seed in the NBA playoffs. since then, the organization has undergone a remarkable turnaround, reaching the conference semifinals in two straight seasons, and coming one game short of the Eastern Conference Final in 2024 after an unprecedented wave of injuries.

It was long expected that Thibodeau would get his extension, and it is a move that BT and Sal both applaud.

"This is the best thing that the Knicks could have done," Sal said. "Anything with 90s Knicks ties, I'm all for. As much as I wanted [Jeff] Van Gundy back, I think Thibs was the best man for the job, and I think he's proven that."

Thibodeau has helped build a roster full of players that embrace his mentality and process, and several of them, from Jalen Brunson to OG Anunoby and now Mikal Bridges, are signed for years to come, giving the Knicks a rare sense of stability that BT says Thibs and Leon Rose should be applauded for.

"He has truly earned it," BT said. "This was so broken, from management to GMs to coaches…the Knicks were an absolute trainwreck circus. For this man to restore respect and pride in the one team that unifies this city, I'm happy for Tom Thibodeau.

"I'm gonna give you a word that I never thought would have applied to the Knicks again: stability."
