BT & Sal: Knicks have a No. 1 star in Jalen Brunson, regardless of what doubters say

The Knicks haven’t lost since Jalen Brunson returned from a calf, injury, and the standout point guard hasn’t skipped a beat, averaging 36.3 points per game since returning, while shooting 53.5 percent from the field and 45.8 percent from beyond the arc.

Brunson is having a career year that should net him his first All-Star appearance, and BT and Sal agree that the 27-year-old doesn’t get the respect he deserves around the NBA.

“He dominates the game. He takes over,” Sal said. “He completely changed the complexion of this team.

“He’s that guy. Now you hope to find the next guy. The Knicks aren’t chasing the No. 1 star anymore. They already have that in Jalen Brunson.”

Sal believes the Knicks already have a co-star in Julius Randle that can win a title with Brunson, but both he and BT agree that another guard is needed to bolster this roster. BT says DeMar DeRozan would be the perfect fit.

“He would flourish here,” BT said.
