BT & Sal react to news of Julius Randle undergoing shoulder surgery: 'This sucks, man'
BT and Sal were live on the air when news broke that Julius Randle will miss the rest of the season and undergo shoulder surgery after pushing to come back for the playoffs.
The mood was a somber one as reality set in that the Knicks, who had the feel of a team that could make a deep run when fully healthy, would not be getting their All-Star back.
"Let's not get it twisted that Julius Randle is an absolute beast," BT said. "Julius Randle is old school and he is a dog. He is the kind of guy that you want on your team. I have no doubt that every ounce of commitment and physical exertion and exploring all the different medical possibilities, this man left nothing uncovered. He wanted so badly to tap back into this thing. Body betrayed him, it sucks, changes who the Knicks are and what they can be. But I'm not stunned at this point.
"He is gonna be missed. Another year where he doesn't get to clap back and prove to his critics that he can get it done in the second season.
It lowers the Knicks ceiling massively…Now we go into next year still not knowing if Julius Randle can get it done in the playoffs."
Sal was equally despondent, as what was one of the most exciting Knicks seasons in recent memory as become a major "what if."
"This sucks, man," Sal said. "I cannot believe this has happened now. This is the worst news you can get."
