BT: Why Julius Randle injury could be good for Knicks in long run

Julius Randle could miss weeks, not months, with a separated shoulder, according to multiple reports, and BT wonders if Randle missing time, but not too much time, could actually help the Knicks in the long run.

"He logs so many minutes…this could be a positive thing," BT said.
"If the timeline is right, and he is out 2-3 weeks and has enough time to come back and shed the rust, he's gonna be fresher for the playoffs."

Randle hasn't missed a game yet this season, and didn't last year until the final five games of the year due to a sprained ankle. If a player of his physicality could have more rest before the playoffs, maybe him sitting for a while won't hurt the Knicks as much as some believe.

Of course, New York will have to find a way to win in the interim without their All-Star and not slide in the Eastern Conference.

"I don't want him to be rusty and then another built-in excuse, but I want him to be good for the postseason," Sal said. "To me, that's all that matters. Give him a few weeks, maybe a month before the playoffs, get them going, clicking on all cylinders going into the playoffs."
