Jalen Brunson and the Knicks seem to have avoided disaster on Sunday night, as a major injury scare to Brunson was eventually classified as a knee contusion after New York took down the Cavaliers.
Brunson, who exited in the first minute of the game, apparently banged knees and went off for X-rays, which were negative, as Tom Thibodeau even seemed relieved that the Knicks avoided a season-ending injury to their star, which would have been a season-ending blow for New York as well.
Now, C-Mac says Knicks fans can collectively exhale, at least for now.
"Let's just take a second and try and realize that it's not over, thank God," C-Mac said. "Hopefully it's not over.
"It's hard to be positive when Brunson goes to the ground and he's clutching at his knee, can barely stand…I'm right there with you. I saw the season flash before my eyes. Not only was that moment so terrifying for what it means for this season…you have visions of, 'Is he ever gonna be the same again?'"
For now, it appears Brunson won't miss much time, though the Knicks still need several of their top contributors to return from long-term absences. But their most important player of all appears to have skirted disaster, and that deserves a sigh of relief.
"Hopefully it's just a dead leg, some nerve and numbing," C-Mac said. "Hopefully he will be back in short order. It sounds like you've avoided the worst."
