We know the Celtics have reportedly been “active” in trade talks, and now it sounds like they may be closing in on a blockbuster move.
Stadium’s Shams Charania reported on Wednesday that the Celtics “are pursuing Kristaps Porzingis from the Wizards in a potential opt-in-and-trade deal.”
A short time later, Charania added that Boston is in “strong talks” to land Porzingis in a three-team deal that would send Malcolm Brogdon to the Los Angeles Clippers and Marcus Morris and draft compensation to Washington.
It wasn’t immediately clear how much of the draft compensation would be coming from the Celtics, or whether any other pieces are involved.
Porzingis, 27, is a 7-foot-3 power forward/center who averaged 23.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.5 blocks per game last season while shooting 38.5% from three-point range. He would certainly add a different and unique look to the Celtics’ lineup, especially offensively.
The Wizards are clearly in a rebuild after trading away Bradley Beal and now seem poised to move another major piece.
Brad Stevens and the Celtics front office have reportedly been looking for ways to better balance Boston's roster by trading a guard for frontcourt help, and this would certainly accomplish that.
MassLive’s Brian Robb reports the Celtics “would likely retain Payton Pritchard” in this scenario since he would bump up the guard depth chart if Brogdon were traded.
