The Knicks announced Friday that Derrick Rose would be undergoing another procedure on his surgically-repaired ankle, leaving disgruntled fans to wonder if the veteran point guard would be shut down for the season.
But according to multiple reports, the outlook may be much better than that.
Both ESPN and SNY reported that Rose’s procedure is related to a skin infection where he underwent that ankle surgery back in December, and he could return to the lineup as soon as the next 1-2 weeks.
Rose, arguably the team’s most valuable player since he was acquired via trade last season, has left a significant void in New York’s lineup, especially since Kemba Walker has been shut down for the season and both Alec Burks and Immanuel Quickley have struggled in point guard roles. But Rose, who signed a three-year deal over the offseason, could be back soon after Friday’s initial announcement made many fear that his season was over.
