Despite Game 1 win, Hawks have plenty to improve upon vs. Knicks

The Hawks beat the Knicks 107-105 in Game 1 on Trae Young's floater, a big victory considering it was a road win, but there's plenty still to be concerned about for the Hawks.

One of the biggest keys for Atlanta was defending Julius Randle, and they did an outstanding job containing the Knicks' regular-season MVP.

The Hawks held Randle to just 15 points on a putrid 6-for-23 shooting. There's no doubt if Randle is held to that total you'd expect the Hawks to win.

What the Hawks didn't count on was Alec Burks putting up 27 points and Derrick Rose absolutely torching the defense when Clint Capela was resting.

Both teams will likely look at Sunday's game with the mindset that they didn't play their best ball.

For the Hawks, it was Gallinari's poor shooting for most of the game and for the Knicks it was Randle's letdown in Game 1.

The Hawks are now tasked with figuring out how to repeat their defensive performance against Randle, while adding in the solution to Burks and Rose's output.

The Hawks also should expect the Knicks to go hard defending Trae Young and will need even more support from role players in Wednesday's Game 2 than they got Sunday.

While the Hawks stole an important road game, the expectations are the Knicks will do a better job defending Trae while Randle gets going a bit. So the rest of the series could be just as tight as a two-point win near the buzzer was.
