Damian Lillard is heading to Milwaukee, and according to NBA insider Marc Spears, the superstar point guard has his agent tell the Bucks and Nets before the trade became official that he was willing go to either destination as talks with the Heat fell apart.
For Evan, the fact that Lillard would want the Heat, Bucks, and Nets over the Knicks should be concerning.
“This is not about the Brooklyn Nets,” Evan said. “This is not about me saying ‘Haha, he wants me, doesn’t want you.’ No, I’m above that. This is about the fact that a superstar player requested a trade to three teams, all in the Eastern Conference, and all that are your competition. One team didn’t even get as far as you last year…the other team, you fought tooth and nail and gave them a good series in six. The other team he was good with going to was your redheaded stepchild that plays a couple miles away from you and apparently have no fans and a very quiet arena.
“What would piss me off is…even after a good year, even after getting further than the Bucks, and clearly outlasting the superstar-failed Brooklyn Nets, the superstar still doesn’t want you.”
The Knicks famously struck out in the star-studded free agent class of 2019, with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving both choosing the Nets, and even after that failed spectacularly, Lillard was interested in Brooklyn. Evan doesn’t want to gloat, but he says Knicks fans should be very worried about that reality.
“He didn’t request a trade to the Knicks. He wasn’t good with coming to you,” Evan said. “While you may take this from the messenger and saying, ‘Evan is being a douche again.’ No, I’m telling you, he didn’t want you and you have to start asking why.
“That’s a story, and that’s a big deal, and I think every Knick fan has to be reflective in asking why. And yeah, it should sting a little bit that the franchise with no fans, they ain’t that good, and with a headcase at point guard, Damian got their approval, and you didn’t.”
