Evan: When is it OK to ask if Bam Adebayo is a dirty player?

One of the highlights of the night in the Knicks’ game five win over the Heat came in the fourth quarter, when Quentin Grimes stripped Jimmy Butler to help seal New York’s season-saving victory.

What made the play even more memorable was the fact that Grimes made the steal while limping after banging knees with Bam Adebayo above the 3-points line.

For Evan Roberts, it was another opportunity to raise the question: is Adebayo a dirty player?

“This Bam Adebayo, who I have great respect for…how many freaking guys does he have to hurt before we ask the question, is he dirty or not?” Evan said. “He belted Randle right out of the gate, and do you remember earlier in the series when he stood on Jalen Brunson’s ankle? like he was doing a balancing act?”

Adebayo hit Randle’s eye when the two were fighting for a rebound, and Randle landed on Adebayo’s foot after taking a jumper earlier in the series, and landed on Brunson’s ankle after he had injured it in game one. Many Knicks fans were bashing Adebayo during game five, calling him a dirty player. Evan says those criticisms are justified.

“Bam is injuring Knicks day after day,” Evan said. “Sometimes, I want to lean towards, ‘It happens, it’s basketball, it’s a physical game.’ But after a while, you start to say, ‘Is this guy dirty?’

“Think about how many ankles Bam Adebayo has injured in a five-game series. He’s injuring the Knicks on a nightly basis.”
