After 19 seasons that included 10 All-Star selections and a spot on the NBA's 75 greatest players of all time list, former Knicks star Carmelo Anthony has announced his retirement.

Anthony, a future Hall of Famer and one of the greatest scorers in NBA history, posted a video on Twitter of himself announcing the news, while highlights from his decorated basketball career, including his national title run at Syracuse, played in the background. He then passed the torch to his son, Kiyan, in the video that had already eclipsed one million views within a half hour of its release.

Born in Brooklyn, Anthony's blockbuster trade to the Knicks was seen as a homecoming, and a bright spot during a time where the franchise struggled to lure the game's best players to Madison Square Garden. Anthony was an All-Star every season he played for the Knicks, and won the league's scoring title during the 2012-13 campaign, when New York won 54 games and reached the second round of the postseason.

Anthony ranks third in Knicks history in 3-pointers made, seventh in defensive rebounds, and seventh in points.
