Gio & Jerry: Knicks in great position to upset Cavaliers

Excluding the Rangers and Devils upcoming playoff series, since one local team is guaranteed to advance, do any other local teams have a shot to make it out of the first round?

Jerry and Gio agree that the team with the best shot is the Knicks, who open up their series with the Cavaliers on Saturday evening.

"The best chance we may have for one of these other teams moving on is the Knicks," Gio said. "There's no doubt the Cavaliers had the better season, they are on paper a better team, but I'd like to have seen what those odds looked like if Julius Randle was 100 percent and playing."

Jerry was in full agreement, especially when considering the Nets' tough task of taking on Joel Embiid and the 76ers, while the Islanders, who needed a win in their regular season finale to lock up a playoff spot, meet the Metropolitan Division champion Hurricanes in round one. But just focusing on the Knicks' series itself, New York has shown it can match up with Cleveland, and absolutely has the Cavs on upset alert.

"I think the Knicks have every chance to win this series," Jerry said. "I don't see the Cavaliers as being that much better at all…they may have the best player on the floor in Donovan Mitchell, but Jalen Brunson has been so much better than I ever thought he would be, and you could make the case he has been the better player all season long.

"With or without Randle…I think the Knicks have every opportunity to win this series."
