Kristaps Porzingis torched the Knicks on Wednesday night, dropping 30 points against his former team while picking up four blocks in his Celtics debut.
If Porzingis can stay healthy, and show that level of production, Gio says the Knicks, and the rest of the Eastern Conference, is going to have a major problem.
“Visually, watching him, his demeanor, the way he looks, he’s put on weight…he’s gone through a lot of different situations. It just feels like this is the right thing for him at this point in his career,” Gio said. “I’m sure as annoying it was for us to watch, he was loving it on opening night in front of that crowd, doing what he was going.”
Porzingis’ injury history will always hang over any run of success that he has, but if he can put a full season together, Gio says Boston will become a very tough team to beat.
“He’s someone who has missed a ton of games, but you want to talk about an X-factor in the East, this guy could be it,” Gio said. “If Porzingis stays healthy, he’s gonna be a pain in the ass for a lot of teams in the East.”
