The Knicks appear to be ending the season on a high, with the young core seeing more fourth-quarter playing time and leading the team on a four-game winning streak after Monday night's win over the Bulls.
But Julius Randle didn't appear to be enjoying the team's success after Monday's victory was completed, heaving the ball from behind his back before walking off the floor as the final seconds ticked off the clock. Randle, who had been out with a sore quad and shot just 1-for-9 from the field on Monday, left the court while his teammates celebrated the continued winning streak.
Gio caught Randle's exit, and has clearly had enough of Randle's antics this season.
"One guy who seems like he's never going to turn the corner is Julius Randle," Gio said during Tuesday's show. "Even in a win last night, he makes himself the story, acting like a baby again.
"I could not believe, even with the season he is having this year, I could not believe the way he acted at the end of this game."
Gio was dumbfounded that Randle responded to a win the way he did, as many Knicks fans still try to figure out what exactly is going on with the face of the team's most memorable season in eight years. But since then, it has been declining production, inexplicable lack of effort on the defensive end, thumbs down gestures to the home crowd, and now an odd exit after an inspiring win.
"He takes the ball, he throws it behind him up in the air, and storms off the court by himself as the rest of his teammates are celebrating…you won the game! What is wrong with you?"
Gio and Boomer's only explanation for what could be going on with Randle is a potential jealousy of Obi Toppin, who has been playing well and started in Randle's place when he was nursing his sore quad, and RJ Barrett, who has emerged into the team's star this season.
"He's totally jealous," Gio said. "Not only Obi Toppin, also RJ Barrrett…damn right he deserves it, but Julius Randle doesn't believe he deserves it apparently."
One thing Gio does know: it's time to sit Randle and leave him on the pine for the rest of the season.
"They gotta sit him down the rest of the year," Gio said. "Sit him down Thibs, have some guts for once!"
