Julius Randle raised some eyebrows on Monday when he left CAA, and its heavy Knicks ties, for a new agency.
Gio took it even further by posing his own “conspiracy theory,” which linked Randle’s CAA departure to a potential Damian Lillard push by the Knicks, who they have reportedly coveted for years.
“The Knicks and Julius Randle are ready for a separation, and it’s already in motion,” Gio said. “Julius Randle is switching agencies because he’s pissed, and he wants to go and figure out a way where he can go to a team where he can thrive, and he doesn’t believe Leon Rose and his CAA buddies are gonna do that for him.
“That opens up the possibility of bringing Damian Lillard in. One domino here, one domino there, and the Knicks get Damian Lillard and get rid of Julius Randle.”
Lillard has been strongly linked to the Heat, but Gio isn’t ruling out the star point guard coming to New York. But, even if that doesn’t materialize, he believes Randle leaving CAA is a sign that the two-time All-Star’s time with the Knicks could be nearing an end.
“I think it’s something to at least keep an eye on,” Gio said. “If you want to dismiss the Damian Lillard thing, keep an eye on the Julius Randle thing, because that could have serious implications as to where he will play next year.”
