The Knicks fought, but eventually lost, to LeBron James and the Lakers on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.
The loss sent New York one game closer to the .500 mark, furthering Gio's argument that the team is painfully mediocre. This time, he came up with a new metaphor to describe this Knicks team.
"They're like a good TV show that isn't a great TV show, but you watch because nothing else is on," Gio said.
"They're like Chicago Fire or NCIS…it's a show like that, where you're like 'Eh, I'll put this on because it's good and keeps my attention for a while, but it's never gonna win a Golden Globe or an Emmy, it's just sort of there. I can binge a couple episodes to kill some time.'"
The Knicks are still without a superstar, and seem destined to battle for a play-in spot later this season, and Gio says they will be there to stay until they can finally swing a big deal like the one they could have this past offseason with Donovan Mitchell.
"If the Knicks aren't getting that disgruntled superstar, which they haven't been able to do," Gio said. "The next way you can get those guys is through the draft. Maybe I want them to be horrible so they can get that guy through the draft. What are the Knicks right now? Average, and in the NBA, that's the worst place to be."
