Carton & Roberts: How could 'head case' Julius Randle play like he didn't care during playoffs?

Carton and Roberts opened their show to give their reactions to the Knicks' lopsided game three loss to the Heat on Saturday, but there weren't many aspects of the game to break down from a strategic perspective.

Instead, both pointed to effort, specifically the lack of it from Julius Randle, who they both agreed played like he didn't even want to be on the floor for New York's most important game of the season.

"Awful happens. Awful occurs," Evan said. "He didn't care. He played like he didn't care.

"There was no urgency, no defensive intensity, and the poster boy of it was Julius Randle. That's tough to imagine when we're talking about a game three with the series tied 1-1. But that's what the effort was like."

Craig saw the same, as Randle was abysmal from the floor, while also showing little to no effort on the defensive end.

"They played in a manner that makes you think, 'Do they know it's a playoff game?' and Julius Randle was the poster child of that more than anybody else," Craig said. "Julius Randle made no sense.

"He's a head case. He's always been a head case."

Some pointed to Randle's ankle, which he has sprained twice since the stretch run of the regular season, but he was cleared to play and on the floor, and regardless of the condition of his ankle, there could have been some visible effort.

Instead, there wasn't.

"Either the ankle was bothering him, or he didn't give a rat's ass," Evan said. "And that's so strange, because it was game three of the postseason. But there was no effort."
