The Memphis Grizzlies were scheduled to play a nationally-televised game against the Spurs on ESPN last week, but were booted in favor of the Knicks and Heat.
Ironically, the Grizzlies’ next game on national TV was on Wednesday night against New York, and after securing a 120-108 victory, Memphis superstar Ja Morant didn’t hold back when asked about being cast to the side in favor of the Knicks, who were blown out by Miami in that game.
“With the team they kicked us off for [last week]?" Morant said. "What happened? Who won?”
Morant struggled from the floor and finished with 23 points on 27 shots, but as a group, the upstart Grizzlies continued their resurgent season, and continued to hold nothing back when talking about their ascent publicly.
"There ain't no running in the M, man," Morant said. "We climb up the chimney. We ain't ducking no smoke. We're gonna let everybody know we're here.
"We're gonna play hard. We're trying to get a win, and if you don't like it? Oh well."
The Knicks didn’t like it on Wednesday, losing for the seventh time in their last nine games, while Morant trolled them for taking the national spotlight last week. But he still made sure to pay New York a compliment before leaving town.
“Big-time win for us here on the road,” Morant said. “No disrespect for the Knicks, I feel like they're a great team. Got some good pieces, just finishing the puzzle pretty much. Same thing we're trying to do.”
