James Dolan joined Carton and Roberts on Friday afternoon in studio, and was asked what many Knicks fans have wondered, considering Dolan rarely speaks to the media.
Does he have a timeline for when he would look to sell the team or transfer ownership?
The short answer: no, and not anytime soon, either.
“I have no plans whatsoever to sell at this point,” Dolan said. “I’m not retiring any time soon. It’s a family-controlled asset, so someone in the family will own it.”
So, expect the Knicks and Rangers to be owned by Dolan or one of his successors for the foreseeable future, despite some fans declaring that Dolan should sell the team and let the championship-starved franchise get a new start. But the Knicks are on the rise, heading towards a playoff spot, while the Rangers came just two wins away from a Stanley Cup berth last season, and Dolan plans to continue to oversee what he hopes will be two championship-caliber franchise, though he admitted the Rangers are likely closer to that level as of now.
“We respect and we like that they’re that involved with the team,” Dolan said. “In the end, ownership and management make the decisions. You may not always like them, but we’re doing that to try and put the best product on the floor.”
