According to The Ringer’s Bill Simmons, Zion Williamson is expected to be traded by the Pelicans before Thursday’s NBA Draft, and Jerry Recco believes the former No. 1 overall pick will wind up in New York whenever he is moved.
“I think he's gonna be here,” Jerry said. “I think at some point, Zion Williamson will find his way to New York…if he gets moved this offseason, I think it will be to the Knicks.”
Williamson, who Knicks fans were hoping to land out of Duke before lottery luck did not fall their way, has played in just 29 games since the end of the 2020-21 season. He didn’t play at all during the 2021-22 campaign due to a foot injury, and wound up playing in just 29 games last season, spoiling his second All-Star season in which he had been averaging 26 points per game. The injury concerns are real, but still just 22 years old, the potential is real as well.
“I'm not saying it's the right move for the Knicks because I don't know,” Jerry said. “But his talent mesmerizes you. He did in college, and even the flashes we've seen in the NBA, you could tell it was transforming from the college game to the NBA game with no issues. The problem is he hasn't stayed on the court.
“I've always felt like, going back to before the draft, this is where he should be.”
