Julius Randle's resurgent season has uplifted the Knicks to a level of excitement that fans haven't felt in decades, but BT is worried that the All-Star could also be one to bring it all crashing down.
"He's gonna drive this team right into the ground if he doesn't get things right," BT said after Randle received a technical foul for the third straight game, all New York losses, and followed it up by getting in the face of teammate Immanuel Quickley.
Randle has been a maddening figure for some, as his All-Star and Most Improved Player season in 2021 was capped off by a disappearing act in the playoffs, and followed up by a painful display of regression that included one of the least efficient jumpers in the NBA, periodically lackadaisical defense, and feuds with the Knicks fanbase. That all seemed to be behind him this season, as he returned to his All-Star ways, could be on his way to an All-NBA season, and discussed his mental transformation in the offseason to become a better leader.
But the last week has seen Randle look more like the player he was last year, feuding with officials and taking his mind off of the task at hand, and the team he has been tasked to lead has suffered as a result. BT says Randle needs to get back on track now, or a once promising season will go down the tubes with him.
"I have been in his corner as much as anybody," BT said. "He's a really good player and I think he's a really good guy. But these mental malfunctions, they gotta stop.
"[Thursday] was another foreshadowing of what very well might derail the Knicks season…this was next level, because his teammate tried to calm him down, and he flipped on [Quickley]…This act has to end."
