Kevin Knox told the Knicks that he wanted to play in this year’s Summer League in an effort to advance his development, but that will no longer happen.
After being included on New York’s roster, the Knicks announced Thursday that the soon-to-be 22-year-old will not play in the Summer League due to health and safety protocols.
Knox, a former ninth overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, has shined in Las Vegas in the past, averaging 16.8 points per game during the 2019-20 Summer League season and 21.2 points per game the previous year. But it has never translated to the NBA, as his usage has gradually decreased since being thrown into the fire his rookie year. He played 75 games and made 57 starts as a rookie, which decreased to 65 and four his sophomore season, and last year under Tom Thibodeau, made zero starts and appeared in 42 games, averaging just 11 minutes. He averaged 3.9 points per game and shot 39 percent from the field.
Knox doesn’t figure to be part of New York’s regular rotation in the upcoming season, as his top-10 draft selection continues to look like a misfire for the organization.
