Adding a star guard will be high on the Knicks’ offseason checklist this summer, if not at the very top of that list, and the team is reportedly among the most “aggressive” teams inquiring about Cavaliers guard Collin Sexton.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, New York is “the most aggressive trade suitor” for Sexton, who is reportedly “very available” on the trade market this offseason. Sexton, the eight overall pick in 2018, is one of the few tradeable assets that Cleveland has, and the team is looking to rebuild. The Knicks could be a team to swoop in and use their plethora of draft picks to make a move for Sexton and significantly upgrade their backcourt.

Sexton continued his upward trend last season, at just 22 years old. In his third NBA season, the Alabama product averaged a career-high 24.3 points and 4.4 assists per game, while shooting a career-best 47.5 percent from the field. He averaged 20.8 points per game the season prior and 16.7 as a rookie, as Sexton has continued to trend towards All-Star levels.

Sexton primarily played point guard in his first two seasons, but moved over to shooting guard last year, which he credited to helping improve his game.

Charania also reported that Lonzo Ball, another potential target for the point guard-starved Knicks, will likely not see a matched offer from the Pelicans if he is made a “significant” offer from another team, as he is a restricted free agent. But the 23-year-old is reportedly drawing the most interest from the Bulls and Clippers. The Knicks will likely monitor Ball’s availability, and the potential trade availability of Damian Lillard. But Sexton looks like a big target for New York this summer.
