Donovan Mitchell trade talks between the Knicks and Jazz have reportedly "re-engaged," and the asking price for the three-time All-Star is sky high.
New York could try and hold out for the price to come down, but regardless, the team will have to give up significant assets to finally land their elusive franchise star.
But Sal isn't sure such a deal would be worth it, or that adding Mitchell would even put the Knicks in a better position to win.
"I'm not saying I wouldn't do it. I'd take him," Sal said. "I just don't think it's that much of a difference. I don't think it moves the needle either way for the Knicks.
"Minimal. Minimal impact."
So, what would Sal do if he were Leon Rose? Again, he would take Mitchell, but he believes the best way to build a consistent contender is through the draft.
"Take him for draft picks, fine…they have a ton to give up," Sal said. "I think that's the best way to get out of mediocrity, to draft well, develop, and hope to hit a star. That's the only way out. You're not gonna get one via free agency, and even that isn't the answer, as you've seen with the Nets."
