Knicks fans can breathe a sigh of relief - for now.
Jalen Brunson left Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first minute after falling to the floor attempting a jump shot.
The All-Star point guard was helped off the court and did not return to the game, sparking speculation on just how serious the injury may have been.
Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau revealed after the game, a 107-98 win over the Cavs, that X-rays on Brunson were negative and that he sustained a left knee contusion.
Brunson apparently bumped knees with Cavs' Isaac Okoro, sending him to the ground for several seconds. He attempted to stand back up and continue to play, but he immediately fell back onto the floor.
He needed to be helped off the court to the locker room and tried to put weight on the injured knee but struggled to do so as he exited the game.
Brunson was ruled questionable to return with a sore knee, and was later downgraded to out.
It was initially difficult to see if there was any contact with Brunson and Okoro's knees, making it look like a non-contact injury.
Brunson has put himself in the MVP conversation with a tremendous 2023-24 season that had the Knicks in the fourth seed of the Eastern Conference entering Sunday’s game against the Cavs.
He was averaging 27.7 points and 6.7 assists per game, shooting 48% from the floor.
