The Knicks made Julius Randle's contract extension official on Friday morning, as the NBA's Most Improved Player will be staying in New York, where his sudden rise led to a surprising run to the postseason.
"Julius Randle embodies everything you want your star player and leader to be about, and we couldn't be happier about the long-term commitment we made to each other," Knicks president Leon Rose said in Friday's press release. "His hard work and dedication to his craft are second to none, and what he did last season won't be forgotten by New Yorkers any time soon. We can't wait to see what's next for him."
Randle captured the hearts of Knicks fans and New Yorkers last year by coming back from a frustrating debut season with the Knicks to become an All-Star, averaging career highs in points (24.1) and assists (6.0), while leading the team with 10.2 rebounds per game.
The Knicks did not disclose the terms of the extension in Friday's statement, but according ESPN Insider Bobby Marks, it includes $106.4 million in guaranteed money, with bonuses that can total up to an extra $10.6 million, which can be activated with additional All-Star selections, playoff berths or All-NBA Defensive Team honors.
The four-year extension kicks in next year, and has a player option on the last year of the deal.
