Report: Knicks may still pursue Lonzo Ball during the offseason despite not making trade Thursday

It was a relatively quiet trade deadline for the Knicks, who acquired Terrance Ferguson in a three-team deal that sent Austin Rivers to Oklahoma City, which came as a surprise to some who expected New York to look to upgrade and gear up for its playoff push.

One of the most discussed potential deals involved Pelicans point guard Lonzo Ball, who New Orleans elected to hold onto despite trading other productive pieces like JJ Redick. But just because the Knicks didn’t land Ball now doesn’t mean they won’t try for him again in the coming months.

According to SNY’s Ian Begley, New York will have “renewed interest” in Ball over the offseason, when he becomes a restricted free agent. The New York Post had previously reported that Ball would be interested in joining the Knicks if he were to become a restricted free agent at the end of the season.

New York will certainly have the cap space to make Ball an enticing offer if they decide to go that route. Ball, a former second overall pick, has developed into a productive player for New Orleans, averaging a career-high 14.2 points per game while shooting a career-best 42.5 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from downtown.
